Complete Equity Markets, Inc. offers low cost professional liability insurance protection to members of AACJ, designed for individuals/firms whose practice is at least 70% time devoted to criminal defense work (court appointed, privately retained or both). Underwriters are willing to consider applications with 50% criminal defense work depending upon the remainder of the practice.
The plan includes Professional Liability, Personal Injury Liability, Disciplinary Proceedings Costs and Criminal Defense Costs Coverages. Optional Contempt Defense Endorsement for defense of contempt charges is also available.
Professional Liability Coverage limits range from $100,000/$300,000 (with $75,000/$225,000 Personal Injury Liability Coverage) to $2,000,000/$2,000,000 (with $100,000/$300,000 Personal Injury Liability Coverage). Disciplinary Proceedings and Criminal Defense Coverages with limits of $5,000/$5,000 for each are included in the basic coverage, with optional higher limits available. Various deductible options are available with a $1,500 per claim minimum.
If an applicant is currently insured under a "claims made" policy, prior acts coverage is included at no additional charge (except for any existing claims or claims arising from acts, errors, omissions or circumstances which the applicant may have knowledge of when applying for coverage). Applicants may be eligible for a 20% credit on the first year's premium and a 10% credit on the second year's premium if retrodate inception is chosen (no coverage for claims arising from acts, errors, or omissions committed or alleged to have been committed prior to the effective date of the policy).
